Despite their charm, the holidays can also be one of the most stressful times of year. Between finances, social commitments, family dynamics, and a host of other stress-inducing circumstances, they can leave us feeling dazed, disgruntled & defeated.
Am I supposed to tip the mailman?
Should I get something for my daughter’s teacher?
Are we doing that white elephant office party again?
Should we get my in-laws a hotel room?
DAMMIT THESE COOKIES LOOK NOTHING LIKE THEY DID ON PINTEREST!
While the holidays may be beaming with holly jolly fun, they aren’t without their fair share of angst.
And some of that angst is not only a result of the usual financial & family stressors, but also the inevitable marketing madness that besieges us like a brigade of black flies in April.
You know the usual messages:
With the exception of that last bit (seriously, ignore that ding-a-ling), it’s not that it’s all terrible advice per se. But the market becomes saturated with these cookie-cutter tips so much so that they become the a priori expectation that needlessly increases anxiety every holiday season.
Because if we know anything about the perfect storm of food, activity & the holidays, it’s that there must be precisely zero enjoyment!
And if any enjoyment IS had (GASP!), it must be punished through 1,500 burpees & some detox shake that tastes like you just crashed your mountain bike.
Thriving Through the Holidays
As the incomparable Dr. Seuss once noted, “Be sure when you step, step with care and great tact, and remember that life’s a great balancing act.”
This 6-week program was designed to offer support & accountability to those who want to stay active and find balance during a time of year that can leave us feeling flustered, frustrated & fed up.
In Thriving Through the Holidays, we’ll cover:
- Deconstructing holiday marketing so it’s less influential
- Identifying & reducing stressors with “The Bonfire Technique”
- Learning to abandon the “All-or-Nothing” mindset to improve success in following through with physical activity & healthier food choices
- Avoiding the “Sin-Repent-Repeat” cycle
- Addressing challenges around moderation
- Offering accountability to help you stay active & engaged in your own self-care throughout the season
- And more!
How You Can Participate
The program will meet once per week beginning Monday, November 12th through Monday, December 17th.
For those local to the Monadnock Region, I’ll be offering this program at Performance Health & Fitness in Peterborough.
- Performance Health & Fitness at 301 Jaffrey Road in Peterborough, NH.
- Monday nights, 6:30 to 7:15pm in the Aerobics room (upstairs, ask at the front desk if unfamiliar)
- Each week, we’ll take time to reflect on wins/challenges from the week before and discuss a new topic and action plan for the week ahead
Online
If you don’t live locally or don’t want to travel, I also may offer an online version.
In the online version, you could still participate with weekly check-ins via e-newsletters that cover the same topics that we’ll cover in person.
- Each Monday, you would receive an e-newsletter with questions asking you to reflect on the week before, which you can do anytime that suits your schedule.
- You’d also be presented with a new topic and/or exercise and action plan to help you prepare for the week ahead.
If you would like to be placed on the list for the online program, please contact me here.
Okay, but who are you?
I’m Sonya LeClair (I run The Reluctant Enthusiast) and I’m a Certified Health Coach, ecologist, and unapologetic nerd specializing in improving physical & mental health through outdoor activity, step-by-step behavior change, and a guilt-free approach to fitness & nutrition.
I base my coaching strategies on the established benefits of physical activity, positive psychology & time outdoors. I hold a B.S. in Wildlife Biology, an M.S. in Biology, and I have over 20 years of experience in wildlife, ecology, conservation & engaging people with the outdoors.
But what does it cost?
I know that you have a number of other expenses this time of year, so I designed this program to be as affordable as possible.
The cost to attend the in-person program is only $29.99 for 6 weeks, while the cost for the online version would be only $14.99.
In other words: by investing less than $1 per day in yourself – and these days, it’s tough to find even a cup of coffee for that much! – you’ll be on your way to feeling more supported, active, at ease & accountable during what can otherwise feel like a merciless time of year.
Ready…set…GO!
